Stress Management

Stress Management

How can we manage and avoid stress at this time of the year?

Our Christmas season shows up in the stores right after Halloween. It seems like it gets more commercialized and earlier every year. Of course it really doesn’t. It can’t start much earlier. Most people feel discussed about merchants rushing the season. Then after Thanksgiving every thing is Christmas with the trees and the stores going all out with their beautiful decorations. Many people set their displays up in their yards and the lights go on the houses. Everything is in place to make a beautiful winter wonderland.

It’s about this time that the stress starts mounting. We have one long street here that every house must decorate their home to the hilt and they have a contest amongst themselves on that street for the best decorated yard and house. People come from all around to drive down the street and admire each of their decorated yards and houses. This must be very stressful with the competition they have amongst each other. This is not the way to manage stress.

I believe we need to forget the urge to compete and remember what Christmas really means. We can have family together on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and attend church to hear the real Christmas story. Share gifts with friends and family that we have shopped for early in the year. To invite those we know who are alone to share our meal. To take in all the beautiful music that is available and the church services that brings us to the real reason for the season.

I believe this is the way to manage our stress during this wonderful and beautiful season.

Merry Christmas
